Prehealth Student Internship Program

The Program

Come find out what the New York College of Podiatric Medicine is all about. Experience life as an NYCPM student during one of our PreHealth Student Internship Programs. These three-day opportunities in New York City will not only provide you with a memorable experience, but our program is designed to give college students a solid overview of podiatric medicine and NYCPM.
We are now taking applications for January 5-7, 2011.

Interns will participate in the following activities:

  • Attend a seminar presented by a DPM
  • Participate in a hands-on suturing workshop
  • Sit-in on a preclinical science class
  • Attend a hands-on lower extremity anatomy demo
  • Lunches and Dinners with DPMs and NYCPM Students
  • Shadow in the Foot Center of New York and see cases involving: Orthopedics, Vascular Clinics, Podopediatrics, Surgery, Radiology, Diabetic Foot Care, Geriatric Foot Care, and Physical Therapy.
  • Learn from a variety of workshops including:
      • All About Admissions
      • Financial Aid Q & A
      • Student Life at NYCPM
      • Tips for Interviewing
  • Tour NYCPM
  • Tour Student Housing Options
  • Tour New York City

    Optional entertainment includes:

  • Broadway shows
  • Ferry ride to the Statue of Liberty
  • Top of the Rock
  • Mets/Yankees Game or Giants/Jets Game(depending on schedule)
  • Visits to the Natural History Museum, the Met, the Museum of Modern Art
  • Visits to Central Park, Times Square (Participants are responsible for cost. NYCPM staff will assist with acquiring tickets)

    Housing & Transportation

  • All interns will be provided accommodations.
  • Transportation to and from all related events will be provided.
  • Interns are responsible for they transportation to and from NYCPM at the start and end of the program. Interns are also responsible for their own bedding and dinners.

    To apply:

    Students must have completed 60 credit hours at a college/university with a minimum 3.0 GPA and currently be matriculated at an accredited US undergraduate institution. Please send application, official transcripts, one letter of recommendation and personal statement indicating why you are interested in a career in podiatric medicine (200-300 words) to the admissions office. Please include all documents in one envelope, and “Attn:” envelope to PreHealth Student Internship Program.
